GP Krk Ltd.
The construction company GP Krk was founded in 1956 as a small but very nimble craft company, which, thanks to great responsibility and even modesty, after more than six decades of development was created into a construction company that is ready to take on even the most responsible construction jobs with all its competences. The slogan of the company “Man, hands, work” best describes the life path of builders from the Krk Island.
On March 24, 1956, the famous basic decision number 2241/56 established the Progres Crafts Company, the forerunner of one of today’s largest construction companies in Croatia – GP Krk. Progres is also the first form of organized construction on the island of Krk, the nucleus that preserved the traditional construction skills of the people of Krk. Due to the need for the construction of communal infrastructure, the Administration for Roads and Ports was founded in 1963. On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1979, the companies Progres and Putovi i luke joined the Krk Construction Work Organization with two branches – construction and civil engineering. In 1980, a key moment occurred: GRO Krk was formed with two OOURs that retained their core activities, and on May 5, 1993, after privatization, GRO Krk became a joint-stock company with 223 shareholders, among them employees of the company.
In the case of GP Krk, privatization meant growth in every sense: material, technical and, of course, human. In the early nineties, GP Krk “crosses the bridge”, comes to the mainland and begins to expand. The development of GP Krka is based on a large dispersion of jobs, first in Rijeka, then within the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, to quickly become the most propulsive construction company in the neighboring counties – Istria and Lika-Senj. The material-technological base is expanding and strengthening, which also gives strong development impulses. Construction and production Krk, GP KRK, in 2001 and 2002 founded the company GP Rijeka based in Rijeka by taking over smaller companies and their workers. The company crosses national borders and establishes a branch for construction in Slovenia.
There is almost no new or reconstructed road within a radius of a hundred kilometers around Rijeka that is not the work of the builders of GP Krk. There are also countless kilometers of water pipes, sewers, gas pipelines, treatment plants and pumping stations, ports and piers. In terms of high-rise construction, it can be said without exaggeration that the builders of Krk have left an indelible mark on the recent history of Rijeka and the wider region. Let’s list just a few: Aula of Pope Ivan Paul II in Trsat, Islamic Center, Jadran galenski laboratory production plant, Zamet Center and sports hall, Kantrida swimming pool complex, HNK Rijeka Rujevica football camp and stadium, Bridge of Croatian Veterans, Astronomy Center, Kindergarten and crèche Katarina Frankopan in Krk, FKF Elementary School with sports hall in Krk, Central City Cemetery Drenova and many other buildings.
KFK Ltd.
KFK Ltd. is a company engaged in the design, production and engineering of glass facade systems. Today, the company has offices in Zagreb (Rugvica), Rijeka, Slovenska Bistrica, Augsburg and London. It currently employs around 300 employees, but this number varies depending on the projects received. Thanks to innovation, constant progress and quality, the company KFK Ltd. is the market leader in aluminum and glass facades in Europe and the world. The company provides innovative facade solutions for numerous clients in a constantly changing environment through a joint approach of innovative design, detailed planning, quality assembly and final project completion.
Production facilities of KFK Ltd. in Rugvica they look impressive. From the entrance door to the production facilities, everything is at a high technological level and the design has not been neglected even in the interior. The company’s philosophy is: “look for work where there is enough of it”, and it is one of the best operating companies in the Republic of Croatia. It is continuously growing, and in recent years it has recorded excellent business results. In the last few years, the company has been in a big investment cycle and is conquering more and more foreign markets. By implementing all planned investments and increasing capacity, it became one of the largest companies in its industry in the European Union. The company’s plan is to position itself among the world’s three largest manufacturers of facades with a production capacity of about five hundred thousand square meters of high-quality aluminum-glass facades. Today, the company has the most customers in the markets of the USA, Great Britain, Austria, Switzerland and Germany, and inquiries come even from Australia. The company is very interested in the British market due to specific regulations and rules. About 80% of their production is financially exported to the markets of Western Europe, North America and the region and only 20% of projects are carried out on the domestic market. For the last few years, the company has been acting independently in cooperation with a construction company from New York that contracts the works, and KFK Ltd. he makes facades for it. The company’s growth in the last few years has been driven by constant investments in new and sophisticated technology, its own development of new products and a worldwide sales network. The company has modern production plants and processing centers, its own plant for industrial plasticization, and a plant for glass processing. In addition to the glass factory, which was a big step forward, the investments have resulted in the acquisition of a welding robot, an automated storage of metal sheets and a 3D laser for pipes, the use of which ensures large series of products and high precision of cutting on pipes, which is why any grid constructions are no longer a problem. Despite this, there is still a lot of manual work, because these are unique products that require the engagement and access of workers. This is the reason why most of the investment is in people and their training. The company’s focus is to have all processes under its roof, from cutting, bending, dyeing, assembly of the finished product to packaging itself. In this way, the company greatly reduces the risk of non-compliance with deadlines and non-achievement of quality, at the same time increasing the efficiency of operations.
Some of the most significant projects of the company in the last three years are: Gateway Central (London, Great Britain, project area 12000 m2, construction completed in 2022), 185 Park Street (London, Great Britain, project area 18000 m2, facade type: unique facade, Stick system, construction completed in 2022), One Centenary Way Birmingham (Birmingham, Great Britain, project area 14000 m2, facade type: single facade, Stick system, 2022), Urbanest Vine Street (London, project area 18000 m2, facade type : unified facade, vertical and inclined with exoskeleton, standing seam roof, construction completed in 2021), Landmark Pinnacle (London, project area 38200 m2, 6200 m2, facade type: unique facade with integrated sliding doors, Wintergarden sliding systems, construction completed in 2021.), The Wharf Parcel 9 (Washington DC, project area 1000 m2, facade type: cold-bent unique facade, construction completed in 2021), New Wakefield Street (Manchester, Great Britain, project area 10000 m2, facade type: unique facade including perforated metal panels in front of windows that open, construction completed in 2020), Hotel Ambasador in Split, Žičara Sljeme Zagreb, Split Airport and many others all over the world.
